FACILITY
The Medical Science Building (MSB) at the University of Cincinnati is undergoing a major phased renovation and significant expansion.
- MSB Rehabilitation – includes the partial demolition and renovation of the 35 year old existing Medical Science Building which housed research laboratories.
- MSB Expansion–Center for Academic Research Excellence (C.A.R.E.) – includes the construction of a new 9 story concrete structure and atrium space that connects to the existing MSB. This space consists of new classroom laboratory space, research laboratories, lecture halls, new bookstore, and cafeteria.
- Eden Quadrangle – includes the site work and outdoor spaces that surround the MSB and the new C.A.R.E. facility.
CHALLENGE
Completing the $170M, 36 month duration project required the coordination of seven different prime contractors on three different projects at one site. The existing facility remained occupied during the renovation with temporary logistical moves made to accommodate the renovation of the space and to prepare for the tie-in to the MSB Expansion – C.A.R.E. facility.
SCOPE OF SERVICE
To protect the university’s and associate architect’s interest, CCS provided computer aided CPM scheduling services. CCS Group performed frequent site visits, monthly schedule review, analysis, and provided recommendations to keep the project moving forward.
OUTCOMES
CCS Group worked closely with the owner’s staff, design professionals, and prime contractor’s lead personnel to develop a working baseline schedule early in the project. By providing monthly update analysis, including all change directives and impacts, CCS assisted in addressing and resolving progress issues and tracking potential impacts. This detailed approach allowed the owner and associate architect to forecast a reliable completion date for the different phases of the project. |
